Hydraulics are used for both passenger and freight purposes. This type of elevator is generally used in buildings at or under five stories. The elevator is propelled by a hydraulic piston and cylinder mounted at the sides, bottom or rear of the elevator cab. The movement of oil through a positive displacement pump creates hydraulic pressure and forces the movement of the piston. Downward motion is provided by the flow of oil through a valve unit and back into the power unit reservoir. A main contgroller provides operation and processing of information from the various inputs such as the pump, valves, door operators and buttons.
The geared traction elevator, like the hydraulic elevator, is used for both passenger and freight purposes. This elevator is most commonly placed in larger buildings of five stories or more. The traction elevator provides upward and downward travel through the movement of hoist cables attached to the elevator cab. The hoist cables are driven by a machine power by a worm and gear. The traction elevator achieves higher speeds than the hydraulic elevator. There are safeties located on the bottom of the car to prevent overspeeding of the car. As with the hydraulic elevators, a main controller regulates the different operations.
The gearless elevator is used for moving both pasengers and freight in high-rise buildings where an elevator will require more speed than the traction elevators. These elevators are like the traction elevators with one exception;instead of a worm and gear machine there is a large drive motor powering the hoist cables. This design allows higher speeds and greater efficiency.
Dumbwaiters are used for movement of material only. The maximum capacity for dumbwaiters is five hundred pounds.
Special purpose lifts, like dumbwaiters, are for material only. However, these lifts can be designed to carry a capacity of a thousand pounds or greater. There are a variety of hydraulic and electrical methods used to move the special lifts.
Handicap lifts are used to move wheelchairs in specific areas usually too small to hold an elevator. These lifts are a roped hydraulic method to raise and lower the lift platform.
Home Elevators are becoming more and more popular. These elevators normally have a capacity of 700 pounds and can be built to match the interior of your home. These elevators not only make life convenient but allows those who cannot walk stairs the freedom to move throughout the entire house.
Long Elevator's advanced microprocessor based control systems are flexible, efficient and dependable. The controls are installed on our new traction and hydraulic elevators or in modernization of existing elevator systems. On geared and gearless elevators, this microprocessor control may be combined with our solid state motor drive to provide an energy efficient system.
